Roulette: play roulette online
Like blackjack, roulette originated in France, where the roulette itself (literally a small wheel) was first used.
The rules of roulette are relatively simple, and the game has become increasingly widespread for online gamblers in
the last decade. This is a guide on not only how to play traditional roulette, but also how to play online roulette.
Basics
In roulette, a croupier spins a wheel in one direction and a ball in the opposite direction, at high speed around the
edge of the wheel. When it loses momentum, the ball settles into one of 37 (European rules) or 38 (US rules) coloured
and numbered pockets. These numbers are 1-36, 0, and 00.
Pairs of odd numbers are alternated with pairs of even numbers, while also alternating between black and red. Both
the 0 and 00 slots are green. Numbers on the table (not including 0 or 00) are lined up into three columns of twelve
numbers. The remaining area is dedicated to betting, which itself can be broken down into two categories, inside bets
and outside bets.
Types of Inside Bets
- Corner Bet (also Square or Four Number) This bets one of four numbers will hit, and pays 8-1. Place the chip in the centre of four touching numbers.
- Five Number Bet Bets that the 0, 00, 1, 2 or 3 will be hit on the next role. This pays 6-1. Place the chip on the outside line that divides the 0 and the 1.
- Six Line Bet Bets that one of six numbers in two adjacent rows will come up, and pays 6-1. Place the chip between two rows on the outside line.
- Split Bet Bets that one of two numbers next to each other will be hit. Pays 17-1. Place the chip on the line separating two numbers.
- Straight Bet Bets a particular number will come up and pays 35-1. Place the chip on top of the number.
- Street Bet (also Trio or Three Numbers) Bets any number on a particular row will hit on the next spin Pays 6-1. Place chip on the outside line of the row you choose.
Types of Outside Bets
- Black Youre basically betting the ball will land on black. This pays 1-1, and is done by placing your chip on the box marked black.
- Column Bets a number in a particular column will come up in the next spin, and pays 2-1. Place a chip below your column where its marked 2-1.
- Dozen - Divides the table into the numbers 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36. Place your chip in one of the three boxes marked 1st 12, 2nd 12 or 3rd 12. This pays 2 to 1.
- Even Bets the ball will land on an even number, not including 0 or 00, and pays 1-1. Place a chip on the even box.
- High Bet Bets the next number will be between 19 and 36. The payout is 1-1. Place chip in the high box.
- Red Bets on any red number, pays 1-1, and is done by placing chip on red box.
- Low Bets the next number is between 1 and 18, is done by putting chip in low box, and pays 1-1.
Online Roulette
Online roulette rules are the same as in the casino, but you have the choice of choosing European style roulette, which
due to the extra number gives you marginally better odds. To start, the player must purchase chips on a credit card to
bet with, before selecting a number or lettered box to bet on. Once these bets are finalised, click on the spin button
to start spinning. If you select the number that the wheel lands on, then you win that round. As roulette is based on
luck, dont expect to be able to get rich too quickly!
